Pork Shares

100% Pasture Wooded Raised Pork

About Our Pigs

Over a decade ago, we added pigs to our homestead as a way to have our own meat. We got three little piglets to try out. The pigs were crosses of Duroc, Hampshire, and Yorkshire. We brought them home and grew them out. Since the male was castrated, we processed him when he was large enough. The pork was amazing and the best meat we have ever tasted. We decided to breed the females we had as a trial run. We purchased a Berkshire boar as a piglet and the breeding was a success when he was old enough. The litter was a success and our customers were really happy with the piglets they received from us. Many processed them and the taste of the meat to pork from the grocery store was incomparable. Since the trial run was a success, we repeated the breeding and expanded our meat pig breeder group. We have added Gloucestershire Old Spots to our land in 2020 and will continue breeding for preservation and providing delicious pork. With this said, Pork Shares are available! Our Pigs are Naturally Raised

Our Pigs are Naturally Raised  and Happy

It is very important to us to raise our animals in a natural setting. We want our pigs to live a wonderful life out on pasture. As our property has wooded parts, we have let our pigs roam in a large fenced in wooded pasture pen.  They get to root around and eat acorns, palmettos, grubs, and plants naturally while staying cool and wallowing in the mud. We do provide a nutritional diet and grow Mexican Sunflowers to feed them as well. We give them the best quality life and keep them safe to ensure they are happy and healthy.

We do want to mention that our pigs are not confined. We allow them to forage and be ‘pigs.’ We also let them live out longer for a year or more to have the best life possible. You will notice a more richer, flavorable, meat, compared to that from commercial pigs aka ‘grocery store meat.’ The pigs raised in confinement, or more so commercially, are processed younger but not provided much outdoor time to enjoy life or be able to exercise. We believe this does affect the meat taste.

What is a Pork CSA Share?

A pork share  means that you are purchasing a share of a live animal. The farmer provides transportation  to the butcher and arranges the butcher service. We use a mobile butcher service, therefore the processor picks up the pigs directly from our farm to their plant. You have the option of purchasing a part of a pig or the whole pig. We do not sell individual cuts at this time, only shares.  Because these shares are not processed under USDA inspection, our pork shares are only available to individuals and families for personal consumption only. You can give the pork away as gifts or for free, but they are not for retail once you purchase your share.

Our Pork Shares are Non-USDA inspected meat, therefore they not available for restaurants to serve, or for retailers or distributors to re-sell to the public. Only USDA inspected meat have those options. Our pork shares are once again for your consumption only. Once we find a USDA butcher to work with, we will be able to offer individual cuts.
