Pork Shares

100% Pasture Wooded Raised Pork

How we got here

Over a decade ago, we added pigs to our homestead as a way to have our own meat. We got three little piglets to try out. The pigs were crosses of Duroc, Hampshire, and Yorkshire. We brought them home and grew them out. Since the male was castrated, we processed him when he was large enough. The pork was amazing and the best meat we have ever tasted. We decided to breed the females we had as a trial run. We purchased a Berkshire boar as a piglet and the breeding was a success when he was old enough. The litter was a success and our customers were really happy with the piglets they received from us. Many processed them and the taste of the meat to pork from the grocery store was incomparable. Since the trial run was a success, we repeated the breeding and expanded our meat pig breeder group. We have added Gloucestershire Old Spots to our land in 2020 and will continue breeding for preservation and providing delicious pork.

Heritage Pork: Raised for Flavor, Sustainability, and Regeneration

We proudly raise purebred Gloucestershire Old Spots and heritage crossbred pigs, ensuring all of our animals are from carefully selected heritage lines. These pigs are not your conventional, fast-growing commercial breeds—they are slow-growing, robust, and uniquely suited for our regenerative and sustainable farming practices.

What Makes Heritage Pigs Special?

Heritage pigs, like the Gloucestershire Old Spots, are prized for their exceptional flavor, marbling, and ability to thrive in natural environments. Unlike conventional breeds raised for rapid growth, heritage pigs mature more slowly, allowing their meat to develop a depth of flavor and richness that simply cannot be matched by industrial pork.

Regenerative Farming in Action

Our farm is committed to regenerative agriculture, a practice that restores soil health, enhances biodiversity, and supports sustainable ecosystems. By raising heritage pigs, we align with these principles in several ways:

  • Natural Foraging: Our pigs are pasture-raised, allowing them to forage freely and eat what nature provides, such as acorns, grubs, and native plants. This reduces the need for external feed and enriches the land through natural fertilization.
  • Woodland Management: Our pigs roam in wooded pastures, turning over soil as they root, which helps aerate the ground and promote new plant growth. This process mimics natural ecosystems, improving the health of the land.
  • Sustainable Feed: We grow nutrient-rich crops like Mexican Sunflowers to supplement their diet, reducing reliance on commercial feed and supporting a closed-loop, sustainable farming system.

Why Slow Growing Matters

Heritage pigs grow at their natural pace, living longer and healthier lives compared to industrially raised pigs. This slow, steady growth:

  • Produces pork with superior marbling and a richer, more flavorful taste.
  • Allows pigs to thrive in their environment, reducing stress and ensuring humane treatment.
  • Supports sustainable farming by aligning with natural cycles rather than forcing rapid, unsustainable production.

Choosing Heritage Pork

When you choose our heritage pork, you’re not only enjoying a superior product but also supporting farming practices that care for the land, animals, and future generations. Our commitment to quality over quantity ensures every cut of pork is a testament to ethical, sustainable, and regenerative farming.

Our Philosophy on Raising Pigs

We take pride in raising our pigs in a natural, enriched environment that prioritizes their well-being and happiness. Our pigs enjoy a life of freedom, foraging in a large, fenced wooded pasture where they can root around, eat acorns, palmettos, grubs, and native plants, all while staying cool and wallowing in the mud—just as nature intended.

A Balanced Diet and Sustainable Practices

In addition to their natural forage, we supplement their diet with high-quality nutrition and homegrown Mexican Sunflowers. This ensures they are not only thriving but also receiving a balanced diet that contributes to their health and well-being.

A Life Well Lived

Unlike commercial operations, our pigs are not confined. They are allowed to roam, forage, and simply “be pigs.” We also raise them for a longer period, typically a year or more, allowing them to fully mature and live a happy, healthy life.

A Difference You Can Taste

The result of our approach is a richer, more flavorful meat that reflects the quality of life our pigs enjoy. Commercial pigs raised in confinement often lack outdoor exercise and natural foraging opportunities, which we believe impacts the taste of the meat. By raising our pigs ethically and naturally, we offer you pork that’s not only more delicious but also a product of compassion and care.

What is a Pork CSA Share?

A pork share allows you to purchase a portion of a live pig raised on our farm. We handle the logistics, including transportation to the butcher and coordinating the processing. Here’s how it works:

What You’re Getting

  • You can purchase either a whole pig or a half pig share.
  • Shares are processed by a custom butcher according to your specifications, ensuring you receive cuts tailored to your preferences.

Important Details

  • For Personal Use Only: Our pork shares are intended for individuals and families for personal consumption. You can give the meat as gifts or share it with friends, but it cannot be resold.
  • Custom Butchered: While our pigs are slaughtered at a USDA facility, they are processed at a custom butcher, making the pork shares non-USDA inspected meat. As a result, they cannot be used by restaurants, retailers, or distributors to sell to the public.
  • No Individual Cuts: At this time, we do not offer individual cuts of pork. Shares must be purchased as a half or whole pig. Once we establish a partnership with a USDA-inspected butcher, we plan to offer individual cuts.

Why Choose a Pork Share?

  1. Farm-Fresh Quality: You receive pork from pigs raised naturally, with care and attention to their well-being, ensuring a superior product.
  2. Custom Processing: You have the option to specify how your pork is cut and packaged to suit your needs.
  3. Transparency: You know exactly how your meat is raised and where it comes from, supporting sustainable and ethical farming practices.
